Smoothies with Function

January 6, 2018

When I'm thinking of recipes for smoothies, they always begin with whole foods. It's a lot of fun to play around  with ingredients & utilize real food for nutrients. I never use juice or ice in my smoothie - added empty calories & bulk that take away from the flavor and give you zero nutrients. Ice might be refreshing, but it doesn't add any function to your smoothie. And juice - to me that's only necessary when you're making a cocktail. Every ingredient I add to my smoothie must provide some function and deliver some overall importance. Real Ontario, dark or amber Maple Syrup is one of my fav go-to's as it packed with minerals, vitamins, natural source of electrolytes, great for the skin & anti-inflammatory.
